meeting

I’d want to stop you in your tracks
On my street
I'd try to nudge you to the edge
Of the corner
Then I’d pretend
That we did an accidental meet
That somehow destiny meant
To find you my friend

I’d drop my book
Bend at the knees
I’d apologize after
I’d practiced my sexiest
Apologies

I’d glance quickly to see your face
Crossing fingers behind my back
Looking down shy
I’d concentrate on your voice
While I counted the sidewalks
Wavy cracks

The wind might flip the pages
Across the space between
Your breath and my name
The sun might fade the creases
Holding back the tide
Surging within insane

It might be silent
Searching for sunshine words
Pages wrinkle against
Smiles
Our only movement in
The vowels shushing

And then...
I just might find the nerve
To say
Have you ever heard this?
Let me show you
The words hiding
In my sleeve

I want to recite
This one poem
The one
I wrote for you

Before you
Were in front of me

(for t)

yesterday - tomorrow

you are someone I can love. someone that I want to know better. someone that has an actual personality someone that is not afraid to try something new. someone who understands me. most important, someone who I can talk to and be a friend to. not one of those fair weather friends......
